Egypt’s economic reforms contribute in handling COVID-19 crisis flexibly: Al-Sisi

Al-Sisi expresses Egypt’s deep appreciation for OECD’s role in formulating economic policies that contribute to achieving international development

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi asserted that despite the severe economic repercussions of the novel coronavrius (COVID-19) pandemic, the state has succeeded in handling the situation flexibly and achieving positive growth rates thanks to the ongoing economic reform programme.

Al-Sisi’s remarks came in his televised speech on Wednesday, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

He added that Egypt’s economic reform has reflected positively on its development efforts and the state’s ability to intervene effectively, and implement incentive policies to protect vital sectors from the pandemic fallout and support the most affected groups.

Meanwhile, Al-Sisi expressed Egypt’s deep appreciation for the OECD’s role in formulating economic policies that contribute to achieving international development.

The President added that the organisation’s efforts fulfil the slogan agreed upon by its member states, which is “Better policies for a better life”.

During his speech, Al-Sisi said that the year 2020 witnessed many difficult challenges and negative repercussions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, asserting that the world will change completely after the crisis.

Despite these difficulties, the crisis showed an important opportunity, especially in terms of promoting digital transformation and achieving sustainable development policies that include social, economic, and environmental dimensions, Al-Sisi said.
