Environment Ministry to launch second phase of ‘Eco Egypt’ campaign

Ministry conducts first strategic environmental assessment for southern Red Sea region

Egypt’s Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad announced, on Wednesday, that the ministry is preparing to launch the second phase of the “Eco Egypt” campaign through a project of integrating biodiversity into tourism development.

She added that her ministry is also conducting a strategic environmental assessment for the southern Red Sea region while working on developing a comprehensive development model for sustainability standards in the tourism hotel sector within the technical study for the hotel sector in Egypt.

Fouad pointed out that the Ministry of Environment is exerting efforts to promote eco-tourism and integrate sustainable and tourism standards in Egypt.

In 2020, the project to integrate biodiversity into tourism development prepared the national campaign Eco Egypt.

Eco Egypt campaign comes in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Ministry of Information, and it aims to support ecotourism and natural reserves and raise environmental awareness among citizens.

The campaign will last for two years, targeting the promotion of eco-tourism in Egypt through a website and a number of social media platforms, in addition to publications to showcase Egypt’s wealth in nature reserves, including beautiful landscapes, animals, birds and unique plant cover. The campaign includes promoting 13 nature reserves.

Through the campaign, the Ministry of Environment organised many lectures in various Egyptian universities on raising environmental awareness of natural reserves among youth.

Moreover, a delegation of senior Serbian officials, diplomats, and representatives of international organisations accredited in Belgrade, visited the Red Sea reserves late in December to learn about eco-tourism initiatives in Egypt. The visit came within the Eco Egypt initiative.
