Egyptian petroleum product imports drop 32.3% in 2020: CAPMAS

Petroleum product imports amounted to $6.383bn during 2020


Egyptian petroleum product imports amounted to $6.383bn during 2020, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) revealed on Saturday. It reflected a 32.3% decrease on the previous year, when the value came in at $9.429bn.

In a statement on Saturday, CAPMAS said that diesel saw the largest decrease in 2020, of $858m compared to $3815m in 2019. It was followed by 95 octane petrol, which amounted to $609m in 2020 compared to $1,487m in 2019, and LPG which reached $840m compared to $ 1053m.

It pointed out that Algeria was the top country from which petroleum imports decreased. Egypt’s imports of gas, LPG, diesel, and 95 octane petrol from the neighbouring North African country decreased to $161m in 2020 compared to $478m in 2019.

It was followed by: Saudi Arabia, where imports of crude oil, LPG, diesel, and 95 octane petrol decreased to $2,274m, compared to $3,415m in the previous year; Kuwait, where imports of crude oil and diesel decreased to $1,961m compared to $2,102m; Greece, where imports of diesel decreased by $109m compared to $546m; and Turkey, where imports of 95 octane petrol decreased to $64m compared to $469m.
