Tourism Minister, stakeholders discuss sector support amid COVID-19

Egypt to continue exempting properties used in tourism, hotel fields from real estate tax until 30 April

Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El-Anani met with representatives for the country’s tourism industry to discuss ways of supporting the sector amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Present at the meeting were Nora Ali, head of the parliamentary tourism and aviation committee, and Ahmed Al-Wasif, President of the Egyptian Tourism Federation.

The support for the tourism sector will be based on integration between the Government, Parliament, and the tourism sector.

During the meeting, they discussed ways of stimulating tourism, and implementing the decisions taken by the Egyptian Cabinet to support the sector. These include the continued tax exemptions for all real estate used in production and service activities in the tourism and hotel fields until 30 April 2021.

They also spoke with Minister of Manpower Mohamed Saafan regarding coordination to disburse subsidies given by the ministry’s Emergency Fund. These will be distributed to the fourth and fifth batches of workers in the tourism sector, to support them through the repercussions caused by the pandemic.

The Ministers of Electricity Mohamed Shaker, Finance Mohamed Maait, and Social Solidarity Nevine El-Kabbaj, were also contacted regarding a number of services and facilities to support the sector.
