Tourism Fund approves financial allocations to reactivate sub-accounts unit

Fund to launch campaign to raise tourism, archaeological awareness among Egyptians

The Board of Directors at the Tourism Fund has approved financial allocations to reactivate its sub-accounts unit.

The approval comes as part of the cooperation protocol between the Ministries of Tourism and Antiquities, and Planning and Economic Development.

The approval was given during a board meeting, chaired by Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El-Anani.

Work as part of the programme will be completed in cooperation between specialised experts from the two ministries, in addition to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The unit’s members include a group of experts specialised in the fields of economics, statistics and tourism. It aims to raise the efficiency of the ministry’s employees and build their capacities in the field of tourism statistics.

It also looks to raise awareness of the importance of the unit’s outputs related to encouraging local tourism and measuring its impact on the Egyptian economy.

The unit will study the characteristics of inbound tourists and their evaluation of the provided tourism services. It will also estimate the tourism income following the end of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The resumption of work at the unit, which has been inactive since 2017, comes as part of implementing the institutional development axis. This forms part of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development’s strategy for sustainable development, which includes a component for providing accurate tourism data and statistics.

The Tourism Fund’s Board of Directors also approved the launch of an awareness campaign to raise tourism and archaeological awareness among Egyptians. The move aims to introduce them to the civilisational and cultural heritage of their country and its tourism components.

This will take place in a way that contributes to revitalising the internal tourism movement. This campaign will be funded equally between the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, represented by the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion, and the National Bank of Egypt (NBE).
