Egyptians can register for COVID-19 vaccine next week: Health Minister

Country has so far contracted to receive 100 million vaccine doses, says Hala Zayed

Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed announced, on Sunday, that Egyptian citizens will be allowed to register for the vaccine against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) starting from next week.

During a press conference, Zayed said that Egypt will receive a large shipment of about 8.6 million vaccines within hours, out of a total of 40 million that Egypt will receive during 2021.

She said that her Ministry has prepared locations across the country for citizens to take the vaccine, adding that it had contracted to receive 100 million vaccine doses.

Zayed added that importing coronavirus vaccines is being carried out after they gained the necessary approval from the concerned scientific committees.

She asserted that Egypt is the first African country to approve COVID-19 vaccines and receive them.

Meanwhile, Zayed confirmed that her ministry had not detected any unexpected side effects among those medical teams who had received the coronavirus vaccine so far.

She said that thousands of medical staff have already received the first doses of the vaccine, and are currently receiving the second dose.

Moreover, Hossam Hosny, head of the scientific committee to combat the Coronavirus, confirmed the committee’s intention to amend the treatment protocol for the virus in order to include new drugs.

He asserted that November’s treatment protocol will be updated.
