NCW, Bibliotheca Alexandrina sign cooperation protocol to support Egyptian women

Both parties to exchange experiences, information, and publications on common topics, and jointly prepare studies with regard to gender issues

Egypt’s National Council for Women (NCW) and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina signed a cooperation protocol, on Tuesday, to support Egyptian women.

In a press statement, NCW Chairperson Maya Morsy expressed her happiness in cooperating with the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

“The signing of the agreement on the National Day of Egyptian Women is a great message of support from the Bibliotheca Alexandrina for Egyptian women,” she said, “It is an invitation to women to know more about the library and communicate with it as a beacon of science and knowledge in the world.”

Mostafa El-Feki, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, expressed his aspiration to strengthen cooperation with the NCW, which plays great roles in support of women at all levels.

He pointed out that this protocol is of great importance, especially as it coincides with the celebration of the National Day of Egyptian Women.

El-Feki emphasised that the library pays special attention to women’s issues, and is concerned with cooperating with institutions that support them. This includes implementing programmes aimed at empowering women and enhancing their capabilities.

He expressed his hope that the signing of this protocol would be the first for permanent cooperation with the NCW to achieve the common goals of the two parties.

This will take place through implementing various programmes and projects, and strengthening links with regional and international bodies and institutions.

The terms of the cooperation protocol come as part of the NCW and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s keenness to present new and contemporary insights into the status of women.

The two parties will exchange experiences, information, and publications on common topics, especially in the field of women’s studies and means of their development and empowerment.

There will also be cooperation in the field of academic research, and the preparation of studies and research with regard to women’s and gender issues.

The Women’s Studies and Social Transformation Programme will cooperate with the NCW in organising activities that support the sustainable development of Egyptian women.

It aims to help in empowering them socially, economically, and culturally, and organising awareness programmes to raise social awareness of women’s problems and challenges.

This is in addition to a programme to educate working women on gender issues and their rights. The programme also aims to educate them on their duties to ensure their effective participation in the development of society, and to enable them to participate in decision-making, among other important issues.

The two parties will also cooperate in organising seminars, meetings, and conferences that contribute to highlighting distinguished women leaders in various fields.

At the same time, it will highlight their success stories, to motivate others to activate their roles in advancing the development process.

The cooperation will also include the implementation of projects to support and develop women without neglecting women with special needs. This will ensure a better life for everyone, without marginalising any group in society.

The protocol will include the exchange of publications, and research that each party publishes, with the aim of achieving the benefit of both sides of the information and studies available to the other. It will ensure that the two institutions can exchange experiences and support cooperation between them.

This agreement comes on the basis of the intellectual mission carried out by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the NCW in various social fields.

It also reflects their keenness to work together to improve the conditions of women, and in the belief that the stability and progress of countries can only be achieved through the participation of women in the public sphere. This means bringing women into the fold as essential partners for building a new future.

Empowering women is considered an addition to the balance of society as a whole and its ability to compete at the global and regional level.
