Egypt condemns attacks in eastern DRC

At least 39 people were killed in two attacks

Egypt has condemned the armed attacks that took place, on Sunday, in the villages of Bouga and Chaabi in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

In a statement issued by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt expressed its sincere condolences to the families of the victims, stressing that it stands with the government and people of the DRC in facing all forms of violence.

At least 39 people were killed in the two attacks in the east of the country, while a local official accused a group linked to the Islamic State group of being responsible.

The Kivu Security group reported that “at least 20 civilians were killed during the night in the village of Bugha, while at least 19 were killed in the village of Chappi” in the Ituri region.

A local civil society leader accused the Allied Democratic Forces, a Ugandan Islamist group accused of committing a series of massacres over the last 18 months, of being behind the last two attacks.
