Egypt’s Cabinet denies using internationally banned antibiotics in poultry farms

Agriculture Ministry to launch periodic control campaigns on veterinary drug sales and circulation centres, to ensure compliance with required standards

The Egyptian Cabinet’s Media Centre denied, on Thursday, the rumour that has been circulating on some websites and social media regarding the use of internationally banned antibiotics on poultry farms in Egypt.

In a statement, the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation and the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) have confirmed that no such banned antibiotics are being used in the country’s poultry farms.

They also stressed that all locally produced or imported veterinary medicines that are used in the treatment of poultry, including antibiotics, are healthy, safe, and conform to international health specifications and standards.

Furthermore, the statement said that no veterinary medicines are circulated until they are evaluated and licensed by the Central Administration of Pharmaceutical Products (CAPA), and analysed in EDA laboratories.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation noted that it is launching periodic control campaigns on veterinary drug sales and circulation centres, aimed at ensuring their compliance with the required standards. This includes campaigns on various farms to examine poultry, taking all legal measures against violators.
