Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) has revealed that the annual rate of urban inflation rose to 4.9% at the end of June 2021, compared to 4.8% in May.

On a monthly basis, the country’s inflation in June was 0.2%, compared to 0.7% in May.

In its monthly report issued on Thursday, the agency noted that the general consumer price index for the whole country amounted to 113.2 points for the month of June 2021. This recorded an increase of 0.3% in May 2021.

The agency attributed the most important reasons for this increase to the increase in: the prices of oils and fats by 13.5%; dairy, cheese, and eggs by 1.6%; goods and services used in home maintenance by 0.3%; outpatient services by 0.8%; and products, devices, and medical equipment by 0.8%.

This comes despite a decrease in the prices of vegetables by 2.8%, meat and poultry by 1.5%, and garments by 0.7%.

CAPMAS said that the annual inflation rate for the whole country recorded 5.3% for the month of June 2021, compared to 4.9% in May, and 6% in June 2020.
