Programme will cover all country by end of 2021

Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed announced, on Sunday, that more than 313,100 women in nine governorates across the country received health and awareness services.

The programme, which will be expanded to cover all governorates by the end of 2021, comes as part of a family development campaign in the villages included in the presidential “Decent Life” initiative for the development of Egyptian rural villages.

The services, which were provided over 10 days, included spreading awareness and providing reproductive health services.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health and Population said that the campaign included Cairo; Giza; Minya; Sohag; Aswan; Beheira; Sharqeya; Kafr El-Sheikh; and Gharbeya governorates.

Family planning services were provided free of charge through specialists in gynaecology and family planning. The campaigns also provided medical examination services in the specialties of paediatrics, internal medicine, and gynaecology.

The ministry said that 258,648 women have received free family planning services, and 10 reproductive health convoys are being launched in seven other governorates, including Fayoum, Minya, Assiut, Qena, Luxor, Damietta, and Daqahleya. The services will be launched in a total of 30 villages within the “Decent Life” initiative.

For his part, Dr Hossam Abbas, head of the ministry’s Family Planning Sector, said that the family planning services programme after childbirth and after miscarriage has been implemented in 13 governorates, including Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, and Assiut.

Additionally, the Health Ministry has signed a cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Higher Education, where a family planning clinic was opened at Aswan University Hospital and follow-up to the family planning clinic at Assiut University Hospital.
