Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry received, on Wednesday, a phone call from his Italian counterpart Luigi Di Maio, to discuss a number of regional issues, especially the developments in Libya and Tunisia.

The Italian minister briefed Shoukry on the overall results of his recent visit to Libya and his meetings with various parties there.

For his part, Shoukry stressed the importance of fulfilling the road map approved by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum and Security Council Resolution 2570 regarding holding presidential and parliamentary elections on their scheduled date on 24 December 2021.

Shoukry reiterated the need for all foreign forces and mercenaries to leave Libya without delay, while welcoming the step taken to open the coastal road between Sirte and Misrata.

The call also dealt with the developments of the Tunisian scene, where Minister Shoukry stressed the importance of supporting stability and the legitimate aspirations of the people there.

Shoukry affirmed Egypt’s solidarity with all the measures taken by President Kais Saied to respond to the hopes of the brotherly Tunisian people within the framework of achieving their free will, in a manner that preserves state institutions and overcomes the current delicate circumstance.
