Egypt’s trade deficit decreases by 27.8 % in June

Egypt’s trade deficit dropped by 27.8% in June 2021 to reach $2.49bn, down from $4.07bn in June 2020, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

Egyptian exports increased by 49.2 % to record $3.61bn in June 2021, compared to $2.42bn in the same month a year earlier.

CAPMAS said that the increase came on the back of the rise of some commodity exports such as plastics by 78.0%, ready-made clothes by 54.6%, pasta and food by 53.1%, fresh fruits by 13.8%.

Meanwhile, some other commodities witnessed a drop in exports including soaps and cleaning agents by 7%; dairy products by 23.7%; frozen or chilled vegetables by 8.6%; perfumes and cosmetics by 29.7%.

Egyptian imports increased by 0.9% to $6.55bn in June 2021, up from $6.49bn in June 2020. The rise was led by copper exports by 44.4%; personal cars by 35.7%; iron and steel raw materials by 22.4%; medicines and pharmaceuticals by 12.4%.

While chemical, soybean, and meat imports declined.
