Low-cost housing accounts for 56.2% of total units
Egypt’s Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities has built 103,000 housing units, worth a total of EGP 23.46bn in investments, during 2020, according to Minister Assem El Gazzar.
This came during his meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy, Minister of Housing Assem El Gazzar, President’s Advisor for Urban Planning Amir Ahmed, and Head of the Armed Forces’ Engineering Authority Ehab El Faar.
The latest figures reflect a 13.8% decline in terms of unit construction and 11.5% decline in investments on the previous year, with 326,300 units built in 2017/2018 at an investment of EGP 106.9bn.
Ghanem said the HDB would market the housing units offered by the fund through the bank’s website, to ensure transparency and equal opportunity, and to make it easier for citizens to apply for the units, whether inside or outside Egypt.
