During a virtual meeting between the two sides, El-Wazir discussed ways of enhancing the joint cooperation in various transportation fields. The Egyptian minister handed the signed agreement to Sudan’s Ambassador in Cairo, Mohamed Al-Yas, in order for the agreement to be signed by Ibn Auf.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Hussein Rashidy, Head of Signaling System at the Egyptian National Railways (ENR); Shaban Mahmoud, Upper Egypt Zone Manager at ENR; Ashraf Khalifa, Head of Operation Department; Mohamed Magdy, BSA Executive Project Manager at ENR, among other officials.
According to the ministry’s Thursday statement, the project covers the Cairo / Giza / Beni Suef railway line with a length of 125 km. The meeting also discussed the progress of other joint projects.
The two ministers reviewed steps to establish Egypt’s first factory to produce electric and diesel locomotives for railway, metro, and monorail services, which will be established in eastern Port Said.

“The meeting dealt with the follow-up agreement between the Ministry of Transportation and PRL for the supply of new railway tractors as well as modernising and upgrading the efficiency of the current available tractors at the ministry,” Egypt’s presidency statement read.
